InnerSelf Newsletter: September 4th, 2016

Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.

The times they are... intense (and changing too!). On the East coast (in the USA), we've just gone through a hurricane, lots of rain, and flooding. On the West coast, droughts and fires. And everywhere in between the frenzy of upcoming elections... which is also intense.

So how do we navigate through all this mess and confusion? Perhaps the article that I just put online this morning can give us a direction to go: "Rewiring the Network: We're All In This Together!" Yes, first we realize that we are ALL in this mess together... and of course this extends to outside the USA where each country and continent has its own challenges.

Catherine R. Bell in the article mentioned above says: "Creativity can never be about resistance." And that's where we need to look to find our way out of the confusion and the intensity. We have to use our creativity and think "outside the box" and we have to let go of our resistance... resistance to change, resistance to things not being the way we want, resistance to listening to other people's perspectives, perspectives that may seem to be the exact opposite of ours. Resistance keeps us out of the flow of life, holding on to old patterns and old behaviors. We need to let go of the "same-old same-old" and start being creative and experiment with new ways of being and doing.

I'm reminded of this while hearing or reading about the political positions and positioning on each side of the aisle... and also from the Libertarian and Green Parties who don't even get to play in the movie so don't get a seat in the studio. One thing I noticed is that when we remove the labels "Republican", "Democrat", "Tea Party", "Green Party", "Libertarian", or Bernie's "The Revolution", we all really want the same thing. We want things to work! We want things to go smoothly. We want honesty, we want freedom, we want our dreams to come true. We want happiness and well-being.

I find it interesting when I go to my local hardware store and get in conversations with the "boys" that work there. While most of them are Donald Trump supporters (hey, I live in the South), when we get down to basics and let go of the distinction of this party and that party, we agree on a lot of things. GMO, don't want! Food labeling? Yes! Clean food without poisons added? Yep! Jobs? Of course. Better roads? Definitely! Even a clerk at a local grocery store told me that she was going to vote for the legalization of marijuana (on the ballot in Florida in November) because her grandchild  has epilepsy and would be greatly helped by medical marijuana. And the list goes on. We agree on more issues than not.

There is much more that unifies us than divides us, but because we suffer from the "team party" syndrome, we cheer for our team and "boo" the other team... no matter what. So maybe we first need to recognize that we are all on the same team... the team of Planet Earth. And right now, we're losing. We're losing to the greedy that don't care about Mother Earth, we're losing to the ultra rich that don't care if you're on food stamps or having to live with your mother or got your house repossessed. We're losing to the apathy of those of us who think there's nothing to be done.

But as I've often said, there's still hope while we're still breathing. But we have to DO something, we have to BE something, and we have to care! We are all pieces in the puzzle of life on earth, and the puzzle can't be completed while any pieces are missing. Which brings us back to this week's articles... Sarah Varcas reminds us that it is "Our Sacred Duty to Choose Well" while Doug Heyes tells us that "There's Something More Going On... Imagination is Infinite".

Alan Cohen shines a light on where terrorism really resides and where to start uprooting it in "Where Terrorism Ends: Starting From the Inside Out". Barry Vissell shares his experience of learning to ask for help (The Joy and The Courage to Ask for Help) and we can all learn from this for both our personal lives and our planetary experience. We need to acknowledge that there is a problem(s) and ask for help... and then learn to work with others to create solutions for everything that plagues us.

We have two articles by Sarah Varcas this week (I did mention that we were in an intense cycle, and we need all the help we can get). Sarah shines some light for us in "From Darkness Into Light: This Solar Eclipse is a Wake-Up Call". Even for those of you who are not "astrologically inclined", her articles provide a depth of insight and illumination to help us move forward on our path.

And with everything going on in your life, the article "Have A Tough Time Sleeping?" will provide tools for you to get a good night's sleep... because we all do better with a good night's sleep.

And of course, we have numerous new articles (see the list below in Additional Articles) ranging from health, climate, elections (yes, they exist and are important to our future), economy, relationships, social media, singing and dementia, etc. etc. etc.

Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

The Joy and The Courage to Ask for Help

The Joy and The Courage to Ask for Help

I have to admit. I have a hard time asking for help. I have that “false pride” thing about being able to do it myself, that if I have to ask for help, it means I’m helpless. It makes me think about the two year old who proclaims, “I can do it myself!”

From Darkness Into Light: This Solar Eclipse is a Wake-Up Call

This solar eclipse highlights the adventure of living in the material world whilst embracing the unseen realms of energy and essence. This is the path of the everyday mystic who lives in communion with the divine whilst scrubbing the floor and fingernails, paying bills, earning a wage and putting out the rubbish. However we experience this eclipse at a personal level, the fundamental message will be the same...

Where Terrorism Ends: Starting From the Inside Out

When you use fear, guilt, threat, or punishment to control someone who bothers you, you add to the dark mess. Teaching others that they are guilty, small, stupid, or owing are forms of psychological terrorism. When you release others, you release yourself.

Have A Tough Time Sleeping?

Have A Tough Time Sleeping?

You work late and finally crawl into bed absolutely wiped out. But you can’t fall asleep because your mind is still racing. Oooo! You finally do fall asleep! But then you wake up in the middle of the night. You can’t go back to sleep, so you get up and...

There's Something More Going On... Imagination is Infinite

There's Something More Going On... Imagination is Infinite

In some ways, imagination has gotten kind of a bad rap, lumped in as a kind of fluffy mental activity somewhere on the order of daydreaming or fantasizing... When I refer to the imagination, I am referring to that center of creative consciousness which is the portal to all ideas, to every discovery and invention.

Our Sacred Duty to Choose Well: The Message of Mercury Retrograde in Virgo

Written by Sarah Varcas.

Our Sacred Duty

If there are difficult conversations to be had, the next three weeks may just be the time to have them, even though Mercury retrograde is usually characterised as bad for communication. In fact, painting it as such is just a simplification of a far more complex landscape. So bear in mind that whatever you read about this particular passage of Mercury Retrograde...

Rewiring the Network: We're All In This Together!

Rewiring the Network: We're All In This Together!

Once we realize we are all in the economic matrix together, it becomes apparent how much of our wellbeing is based on relationships, both those we recognize and those of which we are usually unaware. You can see this by simply looking at the clothes you are wearing or considering..
