InnerSelf Newsletter: July 31st, 2016

Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.

This week we take a look at stress. Stress is a four-letter word! (Even though it has a total of 6 letters, the last two are repeats... thus making it a four-letter word!)  While we may think of stress as an adult problem, it affects humans of all ages (and animals too). In children, it may be disguised as behaviors we may not recognize as stress. Read "Helping Kids Cope With Stress" for more insights.

We also may have to experience the stress of illness and hospital stays. Read "7 Tips to Relieve Information Overload During a Hospital Stay" to make your hospital stay (or a loved ones' stay) more peaceful. And we also have the stress of staying healthy and fit (as well as the stress of not being healthy and fit). "Eat and Run: 8 Tips on Eating for Fitness and Health" gives us pointers on how to keep our energy high (and thus our stress low).

And while tools for dealing with stress are important, we also need tools to transform our life to one where stress is not the "leading actor" in our lives. While stress is present, we don't have to let it be our shining star. We can attain a state of balance where we remain at peace with what is. One method to use is to "Take Daily Snapshots of Joy". And for more solutions, read: "How To Keep Anxiety At Bay While Living In A Chaotic World". Alan Cohen has his own suggestions (Please don't take him literally) on getting rid of stress in "How to Safely Remove Your Husband’s Skull"

And as usual, we have numerous additional articles. Many of these articles focus on health, both personal health and planetary. Some of them shed light on the upcoming US election and its importance not only for US citizens but for the whole world as well. Scroll down below for the links to all of the new articles this week.

Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

P.S. The "look" of the newsletter has changed a bit. We simplified it to make it easier for people to read it on their phones and tablets. The old format did not resize properly (because it was in frames and tables) and was awkward to read. Let us know if this works better for you (or if it still needs tweaking).

Helping Kids Cope With Stress

Children are not as adept as adults at understanding complex emotions like stress, and aren’t likely to be able to tell you when they have too much on their plate. A child who is stressed out isn’t likely to appear so. Rather, their anxiety is often portrayed through a series of signs, which can be physical, emotional, or behavioral.

Take Daily Snapshots of Joy

Here’s some wonderful advice for being miserable: Ignore all the good and decent things that surround you in the course of an ordinary day. Here’s more: Complain about the things you can’t change, and even complain about those things you can change. The list could go on...

How to Safely Remove Your Husband’s Skull

How to Safely Remove Your Husband’s Skull

I saw a documentary that introduced Jawara women who wear the bones of their dead husbands around their necks. In some cases, the widow totes the man’s skull. In our culture many of us also wear the skulls, bones, or remnants of dead husbands, lovers, family members, business partners, or  friends around our necks—not physically, but energetically. We hang past memories, resentments, and upsets...
